alexa mauzy-lewis (she/they) is telling stories about the city at the design trust for public space, an nyc nonprofit unlocking the potential of shared places through design.

prior to joining the design trust, alexa worked as a freelance writer and public relations specialist, leading media advocacy and communications strategy for a variety of clients, including unions, public health organizations, climate activists, educational nonprofits, lgbtq+ rights groups, and more. she has experience covering labor movements, reproductive justice & healthcare, culture, publishing, design, and the internet. find an archive of past & current work here.

alexa earned a master’s degree from the new school in creative publishing and critical journalism (cpcj) with a minor in design studies from parsons in 2021. she graduated from pace university’s nyc campus in 2016 with a degree in communication studies and creative writing. in fall 2024, she returned to her alma mater as an adjunct assistant professor at pace's communication and media studies department, teaching writing and convergent media subjects.

based in brooklyn, she writes a monthly newsletter about NYC’s public space and watches birds with her cats, frog and toad. in her spare time she roller skates around nyc, and with gotham roller derby, and is a proud member of the UAFP.
